Why shoot Máj viewpoint?

Máj is a 250-metre sandstone clifftop above the Vltava horseshoe meander near Teletín, about 50 kilometres south of Prague. The river bends almost a full loop here, with a small wooded island inside the bend and forested ridges on either side. There is no architecture in the frame: the subject is the river, the loop, and the light.

On a Máj photo tour with me, we drive from Prague (~1 hour each way), park at the trailhead, and walk about 20 minutes through the forest to the lookout. From there we work the river bend through the golden hour window into sunset.

Beginners leave with a confident grip on landscape long-exposure and exposure-blending. Pros leave with the frame they had pinned on a mood board for years.

What you'll photograph

The frames you'll typically take home include the river-meander panorama at last light, sometimes topped with autumn forest colors blanketing the slopes around the loop. We adapt the timing to the weather and time of year.
