Loket Photo Tour

Loket sits on a peninsula carved by a sharp bend of the Ohře River in West Bohemia. The river wraps the town on three sides and the medieval castle holds the high point of the rocky outcrop. The shape of the place makes most photographs work — there is a vantage point from across the water that frames everything together.

The 12th-century Romanesque castle is the main subject, but the town below has its own quiet charm. Cobblestoned market square, painted stone facades, narrow lanes climbing toward the castle, and the old town walls. Most of what is worth shooting is within ten minutes on foot.

The strongest frames come from the castle seen from the river bridge, the square in soft morning light, hidden lanes off the main street, and wider views of the river bend from the surrounding hills. Late-afternoon light wraps the painted facades; mornings are quieter and softer.

Loket is two hours west of Prague by car or about fifteen minutes from Karlovy Vary. The town is compact and walkable. Outside summer afternoons it stays relatively quiet.
