Why shoot Hrubá Skála?
Hrubá Skála is a Renaissance chateau perched on a sandstone outcrop in the Český ráj UNESCO Geopark, about 100 kilometres northeast of Prague. Around the chateau the sandstone rock town rises in vertical towers and pinnacles, surrounded by beech and pine forest. The classic frame from Mariánská vyhlídka, with the chateau silhouette above the rocks, holds up in every light, and fog rising between the towers turns the whole scene into a separate landscape.
On a Hrubá Skála photo tour with me, you'll work Mariánská vyhlídka for the chateau-on-the-cliff view at first light, walk the forest trails to U Hodin and other lookouts among the rock towers, and catch the chateau courtyard at midday side-light. We drive from Prague (~1.5 hours), then move between viewpoints on forest trails; pace adapts to the weather window. Beginners leave with a sharper eye and confident use of aperture priority. Pros leave with compositions they wouldn't have found alone.
What you'll photograph
The frames you'll typically take home include the chateau silhouette on its sandstone cliff at first light, fog rising between the rock towers, autumn beech canopy framing the pinnacles, and low backlight cutting through the rock town from the surrounding forest trails. We adapt the route to the trail conditions and the subjects you like to shoot.
